‘It’s time for a change’: Mossman favourite hits market

MOSSMAN based Mojo’s bar and grill owner Remi Pougeard-Dulimbert likes to joke that if anyone can correctly pronounce his surname, he’ll gladly provide them a free meal.

The Bordeaux-born restaurateur, who after 12 years has decided to sell this favourite and popular dining facility, has a broad smile when he says no one – unless you’re French – has come close to getting his name correct.

But more importantly, why is he selling?

“It’s time for a change. I want to spend more time with my wife Sally and my 16-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter.

“I have nothing planned. I am in no great hurry, but if a buyer emerged with the right offer, then I’ll move on and seek other adventures,” he said.

Situated in the heart of Mossman with its casual exterior, you don’t feel as though you’re metres from the main street. Locals and visitors from across the world have for the past 12 years enjoyed a unique atmosphere and outstanding food and service.

“My major objective over the years has been to provide the best I can. During this period, I have met many new people, welcomed back my loyal clientele and always looked forward to whatever comments were made after the meal.

“This is what I will miss the most. The interaction is vital in this business and I have enjoyed every minute of it,” he says.

Hailing from the French city Bordeaux – which many believe is the French city with everything – Remi went to catering and hospitality school in the city and tries to return home every two years to visit his father and two brothers, and his sister who lives in Switzerland.

His Australian journey began in 1995 when he had a brief spell at a restaurant in Manly. He then travelled the coast for six months, did some backpacking and found himself in Port Douglas.

He did two spells at Fiorelli’s at the Marina – this is also where he met his Australian-born wife Sally who he hired as a server.

“Sally arrived in Port Douglas from the Whitsundays and was looking for a job and her timing was perfect. We then dated and now we can look back on 18 great years of marriage. She looks after the administration at Mojo’s,” said Remi.

In 2005, Remi purchased Mojo’s and now 12 years later, he is looking for change and whatever the future brings.
