The Port Douglas Muddies Cricket Club had a clean sweep across the weekend, with all three teams winning in the lead-up to a finals campaign in two weeks’ time, with the last matches of the minor round all at home this week.

The 2nd Grade side is guaranteed to finish in top spot regardless of the result of this weekend’s match against second-bottom-place Norths.

On Sunday, the top Muddies side chased down a decent total of 9/131 set by Mulgrave in its allotted 40 overs, with opener Callum Reid smashing a quickfire 88 from 70 balls.

Club president Adrian Bannerman and Cameron Williams both took two wickets with the ball.

The 3rd Grade side continued on its winning ways with a dominant display against Mulgrave.

The Muddies dismissed Mulgrave for 53 within 24 overs, which included a first senior hattrick for the evergreen Andy Fenwick. Opener Doug Barnes also took 3/14 off seven overs.

And the 4th Grade can still make the finals after a strong win against third-placed Barron River.

Starting the game in bottom place, Port Douglas dismissed Barron for 114 in the 31st over. The total would have been higher except for a slice of luck that may have helped turn the tide of the match.

Barron’s top scorer Harmon Singh was on 35 and hitting them well when a ball was smashed back to bowler Andy Fenwick, who got a finger on it and ran Singh out at the non-striker’s end.

The Muddies batsmen chased down the total five down in the last over, with Kenny Nyko top scoring on 38 not out.
