The winning streak has come to an end for the 2nd Grade Port Douglas Muddies cricket team after a heartbreaking five-run loss on Sunday.

The team had won 39 games in a row up to the end of January, but may have lost a bit of momentum after the past two weeks were rained out.

Bowling first, the Muddies dismissed the Barrier Reef Cricket Club team for 107, and was on track for another win at 5-84.

But Port Douglas lost 5-18 to be dismissed for 102, thanks to some tight bowling from Barrier Reef and a frustrating run out for the last wicket.

Peter Gilmour was the best of the Muddies bowlers with 3/12 from eight overs, while opener Ethan McCulloch made 43 runs with the bat, and Daniel Davidson finished on 32 not out.

The 4th Grade team fared better with a comfortable win against Norths.

Dismissing Norths for 68, the Muddies made 5/70 in 14.1 overs.

Andrew Fenwick took 3/13, while Gary Postans top scored with 29.
