The Mossman Sharks continued their fine start to the season with a 22-14 win against the strong Tully Tigers outfit in Far North Queensland Rugby League action.

Try scorers during the game, which was played at home at Mossman’s Coronation Park, were Ty Millard, David Lui, Terence Anau-Sailor and Davin Crampton.

The reserves went down 18-26, the Under-19s won 30-18 and the women lost 0-38 to Atherton Roosters.

This Saturday the Sharks are hosting the Cairns Brothers from 6pm, with the women taking on Yarrabah Sea Hawks from 1.30pm.

Raiders to regroup for another home showdown

In Far North Queensland Rugby Union, Port Douglas Reef Raiders went down to Southside Crusaders 24-36 in the first game of the new season, played in Port Douglas.

The try scorers were Harrison Davis, Dereck Letcher and Michael O Connell, while kicker Jean Valette converted all three tries.

The Atherton Reds, who are playing as the Reef Raiders’ reserve grade this season, won 24-5 against Southside.

This week, the teams are at home to Barron Trinity Bulls, with the Reef Raiders game due to start at 4pm.

Muddies fight to the end

In cricket, the Port Douglas Muddies 2nd Grade team lost the Grand Final to Rovers in a high-scoring thriller.

Winning the toss and batting, the Muddies posted 7/209 in their allotted 40 overs, with Cameron Adam top scoring with 51.

In reply, Rovers scored 6/210 in 39.2 overs thanks to a 32-ball 55 from middle-order batsman Liam Devietti to finish the match off.

Lawn bowls results

Mossman Men's Threes Event Saturday, March 29, results, 4th place on a countback (three teams on 35 points), Steve Cue, Brian Williams & Col Widdows; 3rd place John Rilley, Andrew Nakata & Tony McAlary on 36 points, runners up Bruce Hopkins, Peter Woollet & Ivon Spletter on 39 points and winners of the Event Chris Henson, Doug Laycock & Steve Henson on 44 points.

Ladies had 12 players playing ladies Thursday Bowls. 

Sunday March 30 in the District 8 A Side competition, Mossman hosted Edge Hill Cairns, Pairs 1. Edge Hill Cairns 17, Mossman 16; Pairs 2. Edge Hill Cairns 17, Mossman 15; Fours Mossman 21, Edge Hill Cairns 7. Mossman match winners 52 to 41. Next match is at Edge Hill Cairns on April 12 against Marlin Coast. 

Men's Club Championships A Singles results, John Cochrane 25 vs Col Widdows 19; Brian Williams 25 vs Charlie Toohey 19.
