The Wolfe Brothers have won two country music awards.

Country music fan favourites The Wolfe Brothers have taken out two gongs at the first Countrytown Awards held in Brisbane last week.

The pair, who will be playing at the Savannah Sounds music festival in Port Douglas in May, claimed the Group or Duo of the Year and Australian Tour of the Year awards.

James Johnston was named Entertainer of the Year at the event, run by online country music site Countrytown, while Keith Urban won Album of the Year for High.

Song of the Year went to Amen For The Weekend by Lane Pittman.

Countrytown content director Megan Hopkins praised the award organisers.

“The vibe in the room was incredible,” she said.

The Wolfe Brothers, featuring brothers Nick and Tom Wolfe, were finalists in four categories including Song of the Year (Little by Little) and Entertainer of the Year.

Previous finalists in the  2012 version of Australia’s Got Talent, the pair have since become known for their high-energy live shows featuring their original music.

They joined Lee Kernaghan’s touring band not long after featuring in AGT, including opening the gig with an original duo set.

After 10 years on the road with Kernaghan, the brothers branched out on their own to produce the show you will see at the forthcoming Savannah Sounds festival on May 23-25.

The three-day festival, part of Port Douglas Carnivale, will also include country singer-songwriter queen Max Jackson, Indie-pop band Sheppard, roots and blues rockers The Black Sorrows, and former Little River Band frontman Glenn Shorrock.

Savannah Sounds is an offshoot of the successful Savannah in the Round festival held annually in Mareeba in October, which was a finalist in the Festival of the Year category at the Countrytown Awards.

Savannah Sounds Port Douglas is presented by Douglas Shire Council and major sponsor Newsport.
