A Port Douglas paramedic has taken stunning drone footage of a 2m reef shark trapped in the Four Mile Beach swimming enclosure this morning.

Acting officer in charge Zak Pitra filmed the shark as authorities worked to free it from the enclosure, which was shut to the public at the time.

A crowd of about two dozen curious onlookers and lifeguards gathered on the beach as the events unfolded.

The shark is believed to have found its way in overnight, with one early-morning beachgoer taking a photo at about 6.45am.

The trapped shark follows another incident about a fortnight ago when a 1m crocodile also made its way into the same swimming enclosure.
