Get ready to turn Macrossan Street into a spectacle of colour and creativity as Port Douglas Carnivale’s Macrossan Street Parade returns on Friday, May 23.

This year’s theme, Tropical Treasures, invites businesses, individuals and community groups to bring their best float ideas to life for a chance to win in one of four prize categories, with awards ranging from $500 to $2000.

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the Tropical Treasures theme perfectly captured the essence of the region.

“Winning floats will showcase the treasures of our region, the natural beauty, tropical culture and community spirit of the Douglas Shire,” she said.

“The parade is a fantastic way for businesses, community groups and individuals to come together and celebrate everything that makes our region special.”

The action kicks off at 4.30pm with market stalls, rides, activities and a kids’ disco, building up to the main event - the Macrossan Street Parade at 6.30pm.

As the night continues, fireworks will light up the sky at 8pm, while rides, food stalls, and local venues keep the Carnivale spirit going late into the evening.

Meanwhile, Savannah Sounds will be bringing the beats to Rex Smeal Park from 4pm to 10.30pm, featuring Savannah DJ Sounds with Zoe Badwi, Andy Van, and Jolyon Petch.

Savannah Sounds is brought to you by the team behind Savannah in the Round and presented by Douglas Shire Council with major sponsor Newsport, and this three-day music and entertainment festival takes place against the stunning backdrop of the Coral Sea.

“You have got to be in it to win it so this is your chance get involved have fun, celebrate and kick off the Carnivale weekend in style, it’s our party in paradise,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
