Not even the rainy, overcast skies could stop the excitement and enthusiasm at Port Douglas State School as families arrived for the first day of the new school year.

Twins Tiana and Peyton were among the many excited faces as they began their first day in Prep, joined by their best friend Phoebe.

The trio arrived with matching pink backpacks, and Peyton proudly pointed out, “It’s a unicorn bag!”

Their mum, Mel, stayed calm and composed as she waved goodbye to her twins, saying this was her second time experiencing this milestone.

Another proud parent, Dad Ray, celebrated a special moment as he dropped off his two children, Mergen and Billy.

For Mergen, it was an exciting first day of Prep, while Billy was beginning Year 6, ready to embrace his final year of primary school.

I’m excited for both of them,” Ray shared with a smile.
