Flooding is ongoing across multiple catchments in Far North Queensland, and a Flood Watch alert has been issued for Western Cape York among the warnings.

More rainfall is expected in coming days as a tropical low and monsoon trough bring heavy rainfall, rising rivers and possibly community isolation.

Meanwhile, the controversial Wangetti Trail in Macalister Range National Park has been closed due to recent heavy rains and localised flooding with the closure scheduled to end today, Monday, February 10.

Access restrictions apply with the Wangetti Trail shut and inaccessible until further advised.

Issuing the advice, Queensland National Parks said closures are in place to protect both visitors, our staff and the environment.

“Seek alternative options. Visit another open park or plan ahead to explore when conditions improve,’’ the advice added.

“Before you leave home: Check the Queensland National Parks website or our park alerts for the most up-to-date information about closures and trail conditions.

“We will provide updates when the trail reopens: Park alert: Temporary closure due to flooding: https://parks.desi.qld.gov.au/park-alerts/24920

“If you're planning a visit to our Queensland National Parks and forests, make sure you check park alerts for the latest information on access, closures and conditions.’’
