As a longtime fan of ABBA’s music, I walked into the Clink Theatre with high hopes, and the Douglas Theatre Arts Group did not disappoint.

From the moment the lights went dim it was clear this performance of the musical Mamma Mia! Was going to be a night to remember.

The flow of the performance and the ease of the transitions seemed flawless, and the time and effort put in by the cast and crew was evident.

DTAG’s rendition of this classic production is a true display of the singing, dancing and acting skills our region has to offer.

The chemistry onstage could be felt throughout the entire performance, with special mention to Alina Polishuk as Sophie and Nathan Vorwerk as Sky.

Their onstage relationship felt genuine and natural.

All of their scenes together lit up the stage, with the duet of Lay All Your Love on Me was most definitely a highlight of the night.

With the choreography of Saskia Turner, the stage was brought to life.

The powerful and smooth dance numbers were incredibly well performed and made use of the entire space.

From the ensemble to the leads every person on stage moved with purpose and high energy, ensuring the audience was engaged throughout.

Musical director Jenn Kerr did justice to ABBA’s iconic music.

Every song was well polished and vibrant.

From Honey Honey to The Winner Takes it All, the delivery of each sent emotion and excitement through the crowd every time.

Of course credit must also be given to DTAG president Michael Kerr.

His passion for theatre is evident in the final product of Mamma Mia!

Kerr and the DTAG team have worked tirelessly for months to bring this performance to the Douglas Shire, and have not skipped a beat when it comes to the sheer quality of what they have produced.

Would I recommend going to see this production? Absolutely.

With one weekend of shows left, make sure to grab your tickets before they sell out.

The charm of the iconic Clink Theatre and the constant energy delivered by the cast is almost bound to have you on your feet by the end of the show.

Attending Mamma Mia! was an amazing experience all round.

Whether you are a diehard ABBA fan, or completely new to theatre productions (like myself), do not miss out on this chance to have a wonderful night and support our local theatre group.

Mamma Mia! is on at the Clink Theatre, 18 Mowbray Street, Port Douglas, until Sunday, April 13. Visit clinktheatre.com.au for details.
