Setbacks and sewage works for Port Douglas Splash Park

Monsoonal weather has pushed back the completion date of the Port Douglas Splash Park to August, as work takes place to install a new sewer system at the site later this month.

Before it can be plumbed, contractors will be sucking ground moisture from the site between April 11 and April 21.

During this 11-day period, a stretch of Garrick Street will be closed, and a generator will be running 24/7.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Lisa Scomazzon apologised for the inconvenience during this time.

“Council has already contacted businesses and residents directly impacted by the closure. While it will be an inconvenience, we ask for patience as we take this critical next step in the Splash Park’s development,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

Over the past couple of weeks, the contractor has been working on excavating and installing balance tanks to store the water needed for the splash park.

Due to the recent monsoonal weather, the completion date for the project is expected to be in late July to early August.
