A woman who drove her car through the shop window of a Smithfield business last Friday has been arrested for drink driving.

Police said “substantial damage” was done to the Faculty Close business after the incident, and when the 51-year-old was breath tested, she blew 0.216.

She was charged with drink driving and her licence was immediately suspended.

Police allege the woman drove a Mazda 3 through the shop front at about lunchtime on Friday, April 4.

She was breath tested at the site, then taken to Smithfield Police Station, where she was given a second test.

The woman is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday, April 18, police said.
