Port Douglas locals have reason to celebrate as the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club has been awarded a groundbreaking $275,000 from the Miles Government.

This significant investment marks the largest-ever Service Level Agreement (SLA) from Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ), showcasing a nation-leading commitment to enhancing lifesaving services across the state.

The funding will play a pivotal role in supporting SLSQ’s operational and strategic initiatives, with a focus on increasing membership and boosting lifesaving services along Queensland’s sprawling coastline.

Safety and community services are underscored as top priorities, ensuring that both locals and visitors can enjoy the beach with peace of mind.

The upgrade will include improved communications and equipment, allowing Port Douglas and other surf clubs to coordinate more effectively with other emergency services.

Dave Whimpey, CEO of Surf Life Saving Queensland, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasising the importance of the funding for the organisation's mission.

“Surf Life Saving Queensland is proud of our long history protecting Queensland beaches and serving the community,” he said.

“Our mission is zero preventable deaths in Queensland public waters, and this funding will ensure we can invest in our members, our equipment, and our lifesaving capability to achieve this mission.”
