The AFL home and away season has come to a close with the senior men of the Port Douglas Crocs now looking towards finals.

A dominant win over the Cairns Saints in front of a home crowd over the weekend has left the team with a surge of confidence going into their elimination final this Saturday.

The Saints started strong, kicking the first two goals and limiting Port Douglas to just three goals by the first break, leaving the Crocs with only a narrow two-point lead. However, from that point on, it was all Crocs as they dominated to secure an 89-point victory.

Liam Brandt continued his fine form, Daniel Davidson gave plenty of run off the half back flank and new recruit Callum Reid was also a stand out, playing one of his best games for the season.

Veteran forward Kye Chapple fought hard to secure his place in the race for the Matthew Walsh Medal, awarded to the league’s leading goal kicker. Chapple put up a valiant effort, kicking 10 goals, but it wasn't enough to clinch the win, as Tyron Baird of the Cairns City Lions also booted 10 on Saturday to take the medal.

The Crocs will now look towards their must-win clash against the Cairns City Lions this weekend as they play to defend their Premiers title.

Round 19 also meant the end of the season for the inaugural women’s side. Although they went down with a two-point loss to the Saints, the side have shown guts and determination throughout the season and have been an integral addition to the Port Douglas Crocs outfit.
