“Booked out” ....this is the sign which may soon be hanging on the door of another Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre book club if current trends continue.

The centre has already been running two book clubs, but has just called for expressions of interest for a third one after the others became fully booked.

Margot Wainman is leading the charge for a third book club, and says the popularity of reading and book clubs in Port Douglas is clear.

"It's a way for people to meet people.. I moved here in 2020 and didn't know a soul and now I am part of the Page Turners and we have 20 members and we are all good friends,'' she said.

"Everywhere you go in Port Douglas people are reading. It is what you do, sit by the pool or in the garden and read.''

The latest Bookmarks club is scheduled to meet on the second Friday of each month at the Tin Shed at 10am to discuss one previously designated book, including a cuppa and a friendly chat.

Numbers are limited to 10.

Tea and coffee will be provided, and barista coffee will be available to buy.

"This is an opportunity for people to join a book club where it is affordable and the Tin Shed has been brilliant in its support of that given it has air conditioning and a lift to the space and they will put on a coffee cart for members,'' Mrs Wainman said.

Most borrowed books at Douglas Libraries in October:

- Lola in the mirror by Trent Dalton

- The girl who left by Debra Gavranich

- Picture book: Once I munched a mago by Samantha Wheeler

Contact the PDNC on 4099 5518 ASAP if you want to be part of the new club.
