Another highly anticipated long lunch has been set for Hughie’s Wine Bar in Mossman on June 16th, promising a delightful fusion of flavours. This event marks the debut of their new chef, Damian Burke, who brings his extensive experience and innovative approach to the table.

Having previously honed his skills at Seabean, Burke is ready to elevate Hughie’s Long Lunch with six hours of food and entertainment.

Since its inception in 2022, Hughie’s Wine Bar has not only elevated the Mossman dining scene but also served as the locals choice for Friday night drinks and events. But it’s their regular Sunday long lunches that really have everyone excited.

Following on from their previous themes of “Taste of Lamb” and “Taste of Argentina”, this time around, they are focusing on everything local. Aptly named "Locavor," the menu is a celebration of locally sourced ingredients meticulously crafted into four mouth-watering courses.

Burke's handcrafted menu featuring produce from local suppliers such as Mossman Meat House, Scommazons and Port Produce, shows his level of expertise and commitment to utilising fresh, local produce, transforming them into culinary masterpieces. This means the focus not only supports local suppliers but also ensures that each dish is as fresh and flavourful as possible.

A selection of seafood, slow cooked beef ribs and dessert by neighbouring Duke’s Donuts, feast will be soundtracked by the ever-popular Lady Valiant, who are no stranger to a Hughie’s long lunch - the perfect accompaniment for what is bound to be another expectational afternoon at the Mossman hotspot.

The addition of Damien Burke’s to Hughie’s is hugely positive for the group with Hughie’s owner, Paul McMahon expressing his excitement to have him join the team. “Damien has a lot of expertise and he brings a fresh perspective to the event.”

With 7.5 years as Head Chef at local tapas favourite, Seabean, Damien is set to take the top spot at the Barrier Reef Tavern’s new restaurant which is set to open in the coming months.

Hughie’s Long Lunch’s have a history of selling out, and this upcoming event is no exception, with only limited seats still available. Given the Ironman event in Cairns that same weekend, Mr McMahon laughs that while you can’t go south down the Captain Cook Highway, you can still go North. “With the road closed for the event, we think it’s great for the community that you can still get out and do something fun,” he said.

Tickets are just $89 and can be purchased through Paul directly on 0418 995 683 or email [email protected]. With only a few seats left, you’ll want to be quick or risk having to wait until the next one!
