Police have charged a man after he allegedly threw a spear at a car in Mossman.

The 24-year-old Hope Vale man was charged with one count each of wilful damage, going armed to cause fear and possession of a knife in a public place.

Mossman police charged the man on Sunday, alleging that he was walking along Alchera Drive (Captain Cook Highway) Mossman at about 10.30 on Saturday night, when he threw a spear at a passing car.

No one was injured.

Police arrested the man at about 1am on Sunday, and allege he was in possession of two spears, a knife, and a billy club.

He is scheduled to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court on July 24.

Fire and property charges, Palm Cove

In another incident, a small fire at the beachfront Williams Esplanade in Palm Cove late on Friday night alerted police to a group of teenagers allegedly in possession of large quantity of property including food, drinks, cigarette lighters, torches, clothing, cigarettes, jewellery, cash, tools, two knives and an axe.

A member of the public reported the fire and Smithfield police attended the scene, where the six youths were located in the early hours of Saturday.

Police allege a Palm Cove business was broken into, food thrown around and property damaged, before a quantity of property was stolen earlier in the evening.

Detectives from the Smithfield Criminal Investigation Branch charged two 15-year-old boys on Saturday, each with one count each of enter and commit, light an unauthorised fire, possess knife and two counts of wilful damage.

Investigations are ongoing, anyone with information is urged to contact police.
