CHANCE SIGHTING: Mum and daughter’s story of Douglas dingoes quirky close encounter

A family of regular visitors has shared a story with Newsport about a heart-warming, coincidental encounter with some of the Douglas region’s favourite wildlife.

The family had been out last Saturday and were returning to the place they were staying when they spotted what they believed to be at least two, possibly three young dingoes.

Now, seeing dingoes in Douglas is probably nothing new and certainly many locals are familiar with where dingoes live and even keep close tabs on dingo families, their habits and how many young might be in a family at any given time.

Although what’s quite different about this sighting, is the fact that the daughter of our reader who reported the encounter to us last weekend with a couple of attached videos – happened to be at the very time they sighted the animals – reading a book, about dingoes.

“It was quite bizarre, my daughter was in the car reading a book she purchased from the book lounge called 'Kimmi' about a tropical dingo!” mum, Kelly Haw told us.

“It's quite unbelievable! What are the chances?! James was lovely from the book shop and we purchased a few from him,” Kelly said.

Newsport is mindful that showing the videos Kelly sent us would likely identify the location of the dingoes, and to protect their welfare we are instead publishing a couple of freeze frames from the videos (with the backgrounds masked) for our readers to have a glimpse of the animals.
