A Tablelands woman has been charged with five counts of alleged attempted murder, a raft of other offences and is expected to face a Cairns court today following two separate incidents in the Far North just days’ ago.

Police confirmed the 32-year-old Evelyn woman has been charged with multiple offences, including five counts of attempted murder (domestic violence offence), and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed (domestic violence), assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence), disqualified driving, and driving a motor vehicle whilst passenger not in part designed for carriage of passengers.

All of the alleged charges come after Police said the woman allegedly drove a Nissan X-trail along the Kennedy Highway near Atherton in the early hours of June 26 before she then purposefully and deliberately veered off the road and crashed into a sign, which flipped the vehicle.

Police confirmed the car had five occupants, including a 43-year-old man and four children aged between three months and nine years.

Police further allege a child at the time of the incident was in the car’s boot and not properly restrained.

There were no major injuries, and the group left the scene.

Police only became aware of the abandoned vehicle hours later when a member of the public sighted it on the side of the road in daylight.

The following day, June 27, police were called to a property in Evelyn around 12.30pm following reports of a three-month-old baby girl and a two-year-old girl sustaining non life-threatening injuries.

A crime scene was established at the property, and the children were transported to Cairns Hospital for treatment.

After subsequent investigations, police will allege the woman assaulted the two children.
