Top of the Class: Local Student Sets All-Time High ATAR

The results are in, and a new benchmark has been set at Mossman State High School following the release of the Year 12 results for their senior studies. Ace student Niamh Zillfleisch received an incredibly high ATAR of 96.05, the highest ATAR ever achieved by a student at Mossman State High School, the ranking putting her in the top 3.95 per cent of graduating students across Queensland.

“I felt super excited finding out my ATAR, it goes to show the potential of Mossman’s students and how no matter your goals MSHS can help you reach them,” Ms Zillfleisch said.

“The biggest challenge I think I had to face was learning to ask for help as it can be daunting to admit when you need it. I learnt that there was no shame in spending lunching getting the help as even that extra five minutes can add to your final results.’’

Apart from her own academic prowess, Ms Zillfleisch made sure to thank those teachers that helped make it all happen.

“I’d like to thank all the teachers that helped me throughout High School, with special thanks to Mr Hautaneimi, Ms Mckinnon and Mr Wall. I will be forever grateful for their help,” she said.

Following becoming a 2025 Tuckwell Scholar, Ms Zillfleisch plans to study a Bachelor of Science and Arts at the Australian National University in Canberra something that her goal for such a high ATAR has allowed her to do.

Ms Zillfleisch was a part of the 64 graduating students at Mossman High, 62 of which graduated with their Queensland Certificate of Education while one student received their Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement giving MSHS a 98.6% QCE/QCIA attainment. Additionally, each of these 63 students left school with one or more additional VET qualification.

No matter the future goals of these students, each and every one of them should be incredibly proud of what they achieved.
