TMR has confirmed slope stabilisation works have been completed on the Captain Cook Highway between Rex Lookout and Turtle Cove.

TMR said this specific milestone marks the finalisation of emergency repairs required to maintain open roads and access to communities across the Douglas Shire and beyond.

“Single-lane closures will remain in place while TMR focuses on design and prioritisation of reconstruction works to return the road to pre-cyclone capacity and reopen to two lanes,” a TMR spokesperson told Newsport.

“Long-term works are expected to start in several months to complete the reconstruction works on Captain Cook Highway, Mossman-Mount Molloy Road, and Mossman-Daintree Road.

“Once a program is finalised for the reconstruction, TMR will advise the community of the expected construction timeframes and traffic arrangements for the works.”

“I know how complex this piece of work has been and how hard the crews have been working on the road itself and behind the scenes, Cook MP Cynthia Lui said.

“This highway is crucial infrastructure for our region and for our economy – particularly for tourism and agriculture – and I thank the teams for their work and motorists for their patience.”
