After the unfortunate cancellation of the last event, the highly anticipated ‘Light Up The Park’ is back on schedule for this Thursday, August 15, as well as September 26, at George Davis Park in Mossman.

The event will once again be focussed on strengthening community bonds while featuring the support of local businesses and community members.

Brody Andrews, Coordinator of the Mossman Support Services Youth Centre and event organiser, shared his excitement about the upcoming festivities.

“We’ll have free jumping castles, slides, face painting, volleyball, and various activities for all,” he said.

“One unique activity for the day will be ‘Spit the Dummy’ where participants will compete to see who can spit a dummy the farthest. We’ll also have our free barbecue as usual, plus a few different food stalls joining us.”

Looking ahead, Mr Andrews has plans for future events to include fresh additions.

“For the event on the 26th of September, we plan to involve local organisations and sporting clubs to run their activities and promote their groups. We also hope to introduce fun options like an inflatable sports pitch and bubble soccer.”

This upcoming event will not only entertain but also spotlight local businesses and organisations as they lead various activities throughout the day.

Groups such as Sea Circus are expected to participate, further enhancing the community spirit that these events aim to foster.

“The aim is to develop relationships with locals and promote our local organisations and services by connecting directly with people in the community” Mr Andrews emphasised.
He highlighted that the inception of these monthly events was driven by discussions about the community's needs, particularly the importance of providing accessible activities that strengthen local connections.

“There’s a growing need for more community-driven activities that truly support and engage our residents, especially those that are inclusive of everyone.”

Light Up The Park is returning to George Davis Park on September 26 from 3 PM to 6 PM. For more information, to share your suggestions, or to get involved in next month’s event, please contact Brody Andrews (Mossman Support Services Youth Centre) at [email protected] or call 0412 735 585.

This event series is organised by the Mossman Support Services Youth Centre and proudly supported by the Queensland Government.
