The Douglas Heat Junior Basketball Club are entering its final week of preparations before they play in the annual Top of the North competition in Atherton playing sides, where they will face teams all the way from Mission Beach to Cooktown.

The Douglas Heat Juniors will enter teams from the following age groups: U10s boys, U12s boys, U14s boys, U16s boys, U18s boys and U12s girls. This being the biggest local carnival of the year for the players they’re walking into their final week of training very excited and optimistic about their upcoming games.

The last time these 2 clubs faced off in May it was an even event with both clubs splitting the games evenly and walking out with an even number of wins and losses.

Although there has been a large amount of progress and improvement from the port Douglas kids since the last competition, coaches are still making it very clear that the players should not be complacent and should walk into this carnival expecting to see the same improvement from all the other clubs competing.

All teams competing on Saturday take part in their last training sessions this week, girls on Monday and boys on Wednesday, to go over final game plans, sharpen up on all plays and prepare themselves for a great weekend of junior basketball and hopefully a very successful one.
