Is Port pricing itself out of the market? Picture: Submitted

Dear Editor,

I read with interest your recent story about whether Port Douglas is pricing itself out of the domestic tourism market.

I've been visiting Port Douglas regularly over the past 20 years and I've been a big advocate for encouraging people to visit Port.

Over the  past 12 to 18 months I've noticed a big price increase from the cost of breakfast to the price of beers at the hotel. Port has always been cheaper to buy a beer than Victoria for the past 10 years.

This is not the case anymore.

The price of your standard breakfast has risen dramatically.  Nothing is cheap anymore but Port Douglas prices stand out compared to the norm and compared to Victoria.

I'm probably better off than a lot of people and if I'm noticing the difference a lot of other would feel the same.

The price of airfares are ok if you book well in advance . I can see Port Douglas can put a bad taste in someone's mouth if the prices get too high.

In saying that I'm still coming back because I love the town. Great restaurants, great atmosphere,  people and the environment.

Regards,

Port Douglas lover
