Motorists reported a single car crash into a tree travelling northbound on the Captain Cook Highway near the Wangetti overtaking lanes. IMAGE Supplied.

FINAL UPDATE 10.25am

The Captain Cook Highway between Ellis Beach and The Rex Lookout is now open to all traffic. Local police and our Forensic Crash Investigators thank motorists for their patience.

UPDATE: 8:30am

One lane is now open on the Captain Cook Highway. Traffic delays expected.

The injured motorist was extracted from the vehicle and conveyed to hospital. Please be advised the Northbound lane of traffic on the Captain Cook Highway is now open. Police remain on scene maintaining traffic control whilst Forensic Crash officers are investigating. Motorists are advised to expect delays.

PREVIOUSLY:

There has been a horrific single car crash this morning just south of the Wangetti overtaking lanes on the Captain Cook Highway.

Both lanes of the Captain Cook Highway are now closed with reports traffic is currently banked kilometres in each direction.

Police, Fire and Ambulance and a Medevac helicopter are reported to be on the scene.
