The Palaszczuk Government fully recognises the importance of the early years of a child’s education. They are critical to our kids’ future wellbeing and success.

Anyone who has raised little kids knows how valuable our early educators are. And we all know how critical their services are in supporting parents as they juggle work and family commitments.

"Currently, under our Government’s $1 billion Kindy for All program, we are supporting 40,000 children and their families through either free or cheaper kindy," Cook MP Cynthia Lui said.

"This program provides significant, targeted, financial support for low to middle income families, providing household relief and giving more kids a great start in life.

"In addition to supporting households, the program invests $38.5 million to support 300 remote and regional services, including incentives to attract and retain early childhood teachers; and $19 million a year to enhance support for families with children who have a disability or are developmentally vulnerable.

"It’s a great initiative, another great measure for families that our Government is proud to deliver.

"We also know there is room for us to grow. Currently there are around 8,000 kids in Queensland who could be enrolled in kindy but are not. We want these opportunities to go to every family in Queensland, and that’s why we are looking at free kindy for everyone.

"We want to know what Queenslanders think about this measure and so we have recently kicked off a consultation process with the community.

"I’d encourage everyone to take part – there is a form available online (https://earlychildhood.qld.gov.au/early-years/kindergarten).

"We will have more to say after the community has had their chance to participate."
