The traditional day of love saw Mossman State High School awash in a sea of red and pink.

Roses from Floral Edge in Port Douglas were handed out to students across the year levels, accompanied by handmade boxes of chocolates. Many gifts were made in the spirit of friendship, with a few biting the bullet and asking their favourite person out on a date.

The Senior and Junior Leaders worked tirelessly through the last two weeks to sell, organise, package and deliver the presents. All the money raised will be going to the 2023 Student Council Gift to the school.

MEANTIME IN OTHER SCHOOL NEWS…

MIALLO STATE SCHOOL LEADERS INDUCTED

After a rigorous election process at the end of last year, Student Leaders at Miallo State School were recently inducted at a special assembly.

The Miallo String ensemble played the National Anthem, followed by Acknowledgement of Country. Special guest Mrs Annie Murie, Mossman SHS Principal, then gave an address to the assembly about leadership, students read their personal Oaths and were presented with their leadership badges.

Congratulations to the following leaders:

School Captains: Baylee and Regan
Student Representative Councillors: Tahlia, Archie, Delilah and Haylee
Sports House Captains: Josh, Ash, Regan and Billy

The Year 6s also read their Seniors Oath as they are also recognised as leaders and role-models in the school.

Next week, the School Captains and Year 6 Councillors will attend a three-day camp at Tinaroo with other student leaders from our cluster and Tablelands, learning all about leadership skills and qualities, and returning to school with their draft Action Plan for the year.

PORT DOUGLAS STATE SCHOOL LEADERS INDUCTED

Port Douglas State school held their leader's induction ceremony on Monday 13 February. Special guest was the Honourable Cynthia Lui MP who presented badges to our School Captains, Sports Captains and Reef Guardians.

Following the badge presentations, all 40 Prep students were introduced to the school with their Year 6 buddies.

ST AUGUSTINE’S PREPS

This week Preps have been learning all about numbers and using their fine motor skills.

They have also been very busy making sentences and putting words together to make a sentence. The big highlight of their week was meeting their Year 6 buddies.

At our Douglas Shire schools there is always something happening. Each week Newsport sums up the events, achievements and news from the schools that make our region great. If you would like to be included in the weekly wrap-ups please contact [email protected]
