As the academic year draws to a close, Douglas Shire’s Year 6 students find themselves bidding farewell to the familiar confines of their primary school campuses. Leaving behind lasting impressions on the bricks that have witnessed their educational journey.

St Augustine’s Primary School Mossman

The senior class of 2023 at St Augustine’s Primary celebrated the culmination of their journey at Saints with a heartfelt farewell ceremony on December 1st.

The event featured a touching presentation by their Prep buddies, showcasing the students’ growth from toddlers to Year 6 scholars. A slideshow captured memorable moments from their time at Saints, including various activities and events.

The students were treated to entertaining staff performances, speeches, and gift presentations, concluding with a tunnel of honour and the ringing of the original school bell to officially mark the end of their time at Saints.

Daintree State School

Daintree State School is bidding a heartfelt farewell to three of its cherished long-standing students who are embarking on their journey to high school next year.

Zoe, Bianca, and Sashalyn, integral members of the Daintree community for many years, will be deeply missed by both the dedicated staff and their fellow students. The trio leaves behind a legacy of kindness and leadership that has left an indelible mark on the Daintree School community.

Reflecting on their time at the school, the girls expressed that what they will miss the most is the sense of belonging to a “big, happy family” that defines the unique atmosphere at Daintree State School.

Miallo State School

In the final week of school, Miallo State School bid adieu to its Year 6 seniors in a memorable evening filled with nostalgia and celebration.

The festivities included displays of class photos, a “guess the baby” activity, video messages from each graduating student, and heartfelt speeches from the teacher, Principal, and School Captains.

The students received a special Year 6 Magazine, a high school calculator courtesy of the P&C, and a USB containing cherished photos and videos from their school days. The beautifully decorated venue and delicious dinner added to the overall joy of the evening, as Miallo School wishes its graduates the very best in their future endeavours.

Mossman State School

Last week, Mossman State School marked the graduation of 42 Year 6 students with a ceremony held at the Port Douglas Community Centre.

The event was a fitting tribute to the students’ accomplishments. The emotional final day included a guard of honour where students, with tears flowing, rang the old school bell to symbolise the years spent at the school.

The school like to extend a special thanks to their dedicated teachers, Mr Cameron Love and Miss Elise Bellero.

Port Douglas State School

Port Douglas state school waved their Year 6 students goodbye last week at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort.

The evening was a celebration of an amazing cohort of 35 students who have led the school with distinction and set a positive tone for the rest of Port Douglas State School to follow.

The students had dinner together and then welcomed their families to a graduation ceremony that reflected on their journey through primary school.

Principal Douglas Barnes described the ceremony as lively, filled with laughter.

While the festivities brought joy, it was the traditional last-day guard of honour that evoked emotions. The entire school formed a guard of honour for the departing students, culminating in a poignant moment as tears flowed, both from parents and students.

“In a small town, the bond between the school and students will endure, and with a strengthened connection to Mossman High School, the relationships forged over seven years of high school will persist,” Mr Barnes said.
