In a move to facilitate travel between ort Douglas and Cairns, various local reef tour operators have stepped in since yesterday to facilitate ferry services  from Port Douglas to Cairns and vice versa.

The following ferry services are currently operational:

PORT DOUGLAS TO CAIRNS:

Norseman Reef Fishing Charters

  • Service running until AT LEAST Saturday, 23rd December
  • Departure: 8:30 am from Port Douglas Crystalbrook Marina
  • Arrival in Cairns: Approximately 11:00 am
  • Cost: Please enquire when booking
  • Bookings: Norseman Reef Fishing Charters
  • Enquiries: 0419 015 262

Reef Unlimited Ferry Service (Reef Magic)

  • Ongoing service until further notice
  • Departure: 1:30 pm from Port Douglas Crystalbrook Marina (please arrive 45 minutes before departure)
  • Arrival in Cairns: Approximately 3:30 pm
  • Cost: $50 per person
  • Online Bookings: Reef Unlimited Ferry Service
  • Enquiries: 1300 031 411

Quicksilver Cruises (Silversonic & Posideon)

  • Quicksilver will be providing a short-term ferry transfer service
  • Commencing Thursday 21 December though to Sunday 24 December
  • Departing Port Douglas Crystalbrook Marina and arriving at the Marlin Wharf, Berth 1 (Reef Fleet Terminal Cairns)
  • Transfers will take approximately two hours each way.
  • Depart Port Douglas at 8:00am (Depart Cairns at 2;30pm)
  • Cost: $50 per person - children under 3 years travel free
  • Online Bookings: Quicksilver Ferry Service

Not operating on Christmas Day.

Highway Closure Update:

As of this morning, Damian Meadows reports that the highway through Mount Molloy remains CLOSED and is expected to stay so for several days. Critical damage has occurred at Bushy Creek, Rifle Creek has overflowed, and there is significant damage in the Quaid's Road area.
