Nostalgia is currently king and I was reminded of that on a recent trip to Sydney when I was having coffee at a milk bar in the suburb where I attended High School.

Behind the counter were two ladies in their early twenties who had the Beatles playing in the background, then on came the Little River Band with ‘Reminiscing’ and even Johnny O’Keefe stepped up to the mike with ‘She Wears My Ring’.

I asked them why they had all these oldies playing and not some of music from their generation. The answer came back “Oh that modern stuff is crap, disposable garbage, these songs are great and most of them we haven’t heard before so they’re brand new to us”.

Two smart young women who are happy to be in a ‘Time Warp’. Which brings me to the Clink Theatre’s newest production of the same name that will take you on a musical trip down memory lane.

The Creative Souls Choir will fill the theatre with songs everyone will recognise with Aerosmith mixed in with a little Sinatra, Queen, John Denver, and lots more.

Of course, the ‘Time Warp’ from The Rocky Horror Show appears with the whole cast up on stage giving it all they’ve got.

The song is a parody of the dance song genre, with much of the lyrics consisting of dance step instructions. It will be hard for the audience to stay seated for that one.

Young talent time

Five local schoolkids Gia Brolese (5) Tijania De Caux (6) Solanda Roulstone (10) Rebel Hart (10) Aviva Brolese (10) tackle a massive four numbers in the show, and I’m advised to take tissues for at least one of those. One of the stars of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert the Musical, Kameron Arthur is shedding the frocks for a duet with Priscilla chorus member Nathan Vorwerk. Kameron and Nathan will sing ‘Happy Ending’ made famous by Lebanese-British singer-songwriter Mika back in 2007. Kameron played Adam and the naughty Felicia in Priscilla and has been hailed an emerging star.

Although exhausted from the huge run of Priscilla, which was his first ever stage role, he’s obviously hooked “It’s all about soul nourishment and music is now my life and it brings me to life, Priscilla and the roles of Adam and Felicia allowed me to tap into a creative energy and now I have the opportunity to be further involved and so I’m embracing it” he said.

‘Time Warp’ the show will be hosted by the ever-energetic Bec Waters with the music brought together beautifully by Jenn Kerr. Jenn told Newsport “We’ll have them dancing in the aisles with a journey through time with all the big hits, so there won’t be a song that isn’t familiar” she said. ‘Time Warp’ will be performed November 4 and 5 at Port Douglas’s Clink Theatre.
