Tributes have poured in for much-loved Bonnie Doon mineworker Greg Batterham who will be farewelled this Thursday.

Friends and family members from the Douglas area and other parts of the state and Australia will say goodbye to popular mineworker Greg Batterham this Thursday.

The 55-year-old mine underground surveyor died following a bicycle crash at Mowbray on October 23.
Paying tribute to Mr Batterham on social media, his good friend Kevin Eldridge said there is expected to be a large turnout to farewell the well-liked Bonnie Doon resident.

His former partner, Kristy Douglas wrote a touching tribute: “Greg Batterham you were my friend, my partner, my ex partner but through it all you were always my friend.. you came back into my life when I needed you the most. Thank you for reconnecting me with your beautiful children.”

Another friend posted: “For those you knew Greg Batterham back in good old days of Moree. He was an absolute legend and will be missed by many.”

Mr Eldridge has encouraged friends, work colleagues and family to pay tribute to Mr Batterham at the Thursday service, which starts at 10am and will be live-streamed.

“You can say your name, your condolences to the family, how you met Greg, how long you knew him and maybe a funny story or how he helped you or just what a good guy he was,” Mr Eldridge said in a Facebook post.

“There is room for 300-plus people with an aircon indoor hall but dress appropriately for the tropical heat. Please send through any messages and/or photos.”
After the service, a memorial for Mr Batterham will take place in Port Douglas at the parkland between the Sugar Wharf and St Marys Church from 3pm, followed by drinks at The Central Hotel.
