Emerging Port Douglas cricketer Banjo Jenkins captained the Queensland under-12s schoolboys team at the recent national titles in Ballarat.

Jenkins’ talented Queensland team won the bronze medal behind the eventual winners Victoria and the highly rated NSW team.

“We had an amazing Queensland team with a very strong batting lineup," the young cricketer remarked.

"The standard of the top four teams was very close and we all finished on the same number of points with the two finalists decided on run rate.

"It was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed captaining at the end of the tight matches."

Jenkins batted at No.4 and was also the Queensland wicketkeeper and the only regional player selected in the Queensland team.

After the week long carnival Jenkins was offered a sponsorship with iconic cricket brand Kookaburra.

“I’m rapt to be a brand ambassador for Kookaburra because my favourite player Marnus Labuschagne uses their equipment”, Jenkins said.

After spending Christmas at home in Port Douglas Banjo will head to Brisbane to attend GPS school Churchie on a cricket scholarship.

“I’m really looking forward to going to Churchie. We have a really good team and the cricket program is led by Peter Drinnen who is one of the best mentor coaches in Queensland”, he said.
