Telstra technicians are working to restore a network outage that has plagued Port Douglas today, leaving residents, businesses and tourists without phone and internet.

Mossman appears not to have been affected.

A Telstra spokesperson confirmed an issue has interrupted fixed and mobile telecommunication services “which we are working hard to restore”.

“When communities are isolated and have no access to 000 emergency services, we treat them with the highest priority,” the spokesperson said.

“Initial investigations ruled out a loss of power at the Island Point Exchange, and subsequent assessments suggest a fibre cable issue in the area.

“A field technician is being fast-tracked to site and the fibre repair team are being engaged.

“We thank all residents for their patience while we get services restored.”

No estimated time of restoration has been given.
