The Douglas Heat Basketball Club held it’s first tournament for the year against Atherton on Sunday.

Games were played in the under 12’s, under 14’s and under 16’s divisions with each age grade playing 2 games.

Douglas Heat won all but one game which according to Head Coach, Mick Whelan, was a great result for the Club.

“Many local young kids were representing Douglas Heat for the first time and they acquitted themselves very well,” Whelan said.

The showpiece of the tournament was the under 16s and while the Heat drew the series 1-1, they showed their dominance over the two legs with a 1-point loss then followed up by a 13 point victory.

“The Under 16’s were down 22-6 at one stage before losing that game 41-40. In the second game they came out stronger and ran away with it finishing 39-23,” Whelan said.

Douglas heat is planning another Tournament against Mareeba in the next month or so.

Top scorers

Under 12’s: Diesel, Billy and Toby.

Under 14’s: Kobi, Khyjuan and Asher.
