Mossman Quarry hits the market for first time in 20 years

If you’re in the market for a rock solid investment, Mossman Quarries could be exactly what you’re looking for. Located in Shannonvale, the fully operational quarry is officially for sale with its current owners of 20 years passing over the reigns as they transition into retirement. 

Specialising in high-quality rock materials for construction, drainage and roadworks, it’s one of the few quarries in the area that’s TMR-licensed, meaning it meets the stringent standards needed for highway and roadworks. 

Colliers Sales Agent, Stacey Quaid, said the certification is a huge plus for investors and opens up significant opportunities. “It’s not easy to get TMR-registered and it means you are able to create material to a certain specification. It’s a big bonus.”

Operating since 1990, Mossman Quarries has been a cornerstone for infrastructure in the area with all operations happening on site from the digging of the rock through to crushing, weighing and selling. The new owner will take on the fully equipped 48.39-hectare site which includes a functioning weighbridge - a feature Mr Quaid said is rare in older quarries. 

“A lot of older quarries don’t have the option of a weighbridge, instead using a bucket measuring system,” he explained. “Having a weighbridge takes the guesswork and uncertainty out weighing the product which is highly beneficial for both the business and its customers.”

While its current owners have seen success, that’s not to say there isn’t room to expand the business with the potential to add a transport service. Historically, the quarry has run as pick up only leaving an opportunity to also offer delivery services to nearby areas such as Julatten and even Cairns.
