*UPDATE: Douglas Shire Council has advised that the Daintree Ferry is back in operation again.

Council said the ferry required a replacement part, and that the repair work has now been completed.

The ferry had not been in operation since five o'clock this morning.

EARLIER:

Commuters, tourists and other motorists were left stranded early this morning when the Daintree Ferry was unexpectedly closed.

There’s been no explanation as to why the ferry was put out of action and scant information was offered on the service’s social media.

An initial post about the sudden closure appeared overnight, after its scheduled closure at midnight and some hours before the ferry was due to open at 5am today.

An update at around 8.00 this morning said simply that the “ferry services are currently not operating. Crews are currently working on bringing the services back online as soon as possible.”

The Daintree Ferry’s Facebook page said its next update will be today at 12 noon – but Newsport is endeavouring to find out more details and will bring readers any updates we receive before that.
