Captain Cook Highway currently closed in both directions due to single vehicle accident near Shannonvale Road

5.19PM: A QAS spokesperson just moments ago confirmed with Newsport the male was airlifted to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition. It's unknown when the Captain Cook Highway at the scene will re-open.

2.30PM: TMR has advised the Captain Cook Highway in both directions near Shannonvale Rd remains closed following a single vehicle crash in the area.

Just moments ago a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson told Newsport that a male, in his 40s is currently being extricated from a vehicle at the scene. The man has chest and arm injuries.

There are currently three ambulance units on scene, as well as Police and Fire emergency units.

 A rescue helicopter with emergency personnel on board is at this moment minutes away from arriving on scene to further assist the patient.
