SPORTS DIGEST: Results do not go Douglas Shire's way
Around The Grounds
The Port Douglas Crocs have slipped to zero-and-three after the first three rounds of the AFL Cairns competition following a disappointing 65-point loss to Trinity Bulldogs at home on Anzac Day.
The Crocs were never really in the game, with Trinity’s small forwards snapping goals from tight spots at will in the first quarter, and the Port Douglas players unable to match that intensity.
Going down 9-10 (64) to 16-12 (108), the best players for Port Douglas included Murphy Short, Lee Staple and Harvey Moore, while Kye Chapple and Staple each bagged four goals.
The Crocs are away to bottom side Manunda Hawks on Saturday at Cazalys Stadium in Cairns in a must-win game for both clubs.
The Port Douglas women had an 11-point loss to the Bulldogs, going down 3-1 (19) to 4-6 (30). Best players included Caity Walsh, Luca Roulstone and Sophie Jeffrey.
That team has a bye this weekend.
FNQ Rugby League
Mossman Sharks lost to Ivanhoe Knights 20-42 away from home in Round 5 of the FNQ Rugby League competition.
Try scorers included Windsor Bowie and Terence Anau-Sailor.
This week, the Sharks are at home at Coronation Park in Mossman against the Kangaroos at 3pm on Sunday.
The Sharks women lost 4-46 to Edmonton Storm and will play the Kangaroos at 10.30am this Sunday.
FNQ Rugby Union
The Port Douglas Reef Raiders went down to Northern Beaches Mudcrabs 17-24 on Saturday in Cairns.
After sinking to 0-17 early on, the team made a gallant comeback, but could not do enough to win.
Try scorers were Jean Valette and Dereck Letcher, while Valette scored a penalty goal and two conversions.
The Raiders have this weekend off.
Port Douglas Netball Association
The second round of the Senior Netball competition will be played tonight from 6.15pm, with Sharks vs FNQ Chaos and Spice Goals vs Snappers in the early matches.
This will be followed by the Crocs vs Cougars at 7.30pm, with all games to be played at the Port Douglas Sports Complex.
