Douglas Shire teams in three of the major sporting codes had mixed results this week, with a win, a tie and a loss.

The Reef Raiders rugby union team had a solid away win against Cairns Wanderers, triumphing 13-5.

Cervan Vasquez crossed the tryline in the 17th minute, while kicker Jean Valette converted and also scored two penalty kicks.

Port Douglas will break this weekend for Easter.

In rugby league, Mossman Sharks were involved in a high-scoring, see-sawing drawn match against Mareeba Gladiators at Mareeba on Sunday, with the score finishing 32-32.

Try scorers included Windsor Bowie, Terence Anau-Sailor and Lyle Murgha.

The Sharks also have this weekend off.

And in the opening round of AFL Cairns, the Port Douglas Crocs went down by 16 points to Cairns Lions in Cairns.

Scores were level at three-quarter time before the Lions kicked away in the last to win 8-17 to 7-7.

Best for the Crocs were Joshua Lea, Callum Reid, Ryan McNamara, Tom Kluske, Murphy Short and Sam Fairclough, while Kye Chapple was the only multiple goalkicker with two.

Port Douglas plays North Cairns Tigers this week at home at 2pm on Good Friday (April 18).
