A pair of Port Douglas surf life savers have produced some amazing results at the national championships on the Gold Coast.

Irene Cats and Grant Knight competed in various events for the Noosa Heads club while also proudly representing their home club here in Port Douglas.

Cats secured bronze in the 110-plus combined-age swim team, fourth place in 35-39 Surf Swim, and eighth in 35-39 Ironwoman.

Knight also performed well, achieving fifth in 50-54 2km Run, and 12th in the 50-54 Ironman at the 2025 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships.

With their contributions, the Noosa Heads team came third overall in the Masters points score, finishing below North Bondi in second and Bondi first out of 117 clubs that competed in the category.

The Aussies is an annual event where members from Australia’s 314 surf clubs come together to compete in more than 480 beach and ocean events.

This year's competition was held at North Kirra and Tugun.
