Travel restrictions at Noah Range have been lifted, granting motorists 24/7 access to the crucial stretch of Cape Tribulation Road for the first time in 15 months.

Post-Jasper slip remediation works have reached a stage where engineers are confident the risk has been reduced with the removal of the major hazard on the slip face above the road.

The 12am to 5am curfew was lifted on Wednesday.

Automated traffic lights will now control vehicle movement once road crews complete their work for the day.

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon expressed her satisfaction with the change, highlighting the increased freedom for locals.

“This is particularly important for Cape Tribulation residents who want to get the earliest start possible if travelling through to Cairns.” Mayor Scomazzon said.

Travellers should note the midnight to 5am road closure between the Alexandra Lookout and the Cape Kimberley turnoff will remain in place and weather permitting, should be lifted by the end of May.
