Aussie rock, pop and country legends on the way to Port Douglas
Savannah Sounds

A pair of legends of the Australian rock music scene and a top-line Indie-pop trio will be the headline acts for the Savannah Sounds music festival coming to Port Douglas in May.
Indie-pop band Sheppard - best known for their 2014 hit song Geronimo - as well as blues rockers The Black Sorrows, and former Little River Band frontman Glenn Shorrock, will headline the three-day festival, to be held on the picturesque Port Douglas waterfront at Rex Smeal Park.
Other top acts include country rock outfit The Wolfe Brothers, country singer-songwriting queen Max Jackson and dance music duo Kairos Kin.
The Friday night DJ Sounds party will feature performances from electronic artist Zoe Badwi and Andy Van, with Jolyon Petch closing out the party.
Savannah Sounds director James Dein said, with strong support from Port Douglas locals and visitors, Savannah Sounds will become a key event for music lovers and a major drawcard for Tropical North Queensland.
“We are more than excited to bring Savannah Sounds to Port Douglas as part of Port Douglas Carnivale,” Dein said.
“This festival is a fantastic opportunity to showcase amazing musical talent and celebrate the region’s vibrant energy.”
Shorrock - who now calls himself a proud Port Douglas local - will headline the festival line-up on Sunday.
Other acts announced today include The Katie Richards Band, Eddie Skiba, El Moth, Little Steely Brothers, and beloved local band Roadtrippers.
Saturday kicks off with a Beach Party at Four Mile Beach, where local DJs set the tone from 11am, followed by Jolyon Petch.
Savannah Sounds, an offshoot of the successful Savannah in the Round festival held annually in Mareeba in October, is a new weekend-long music festival coming to Port Douglas Carnivale from May 23-25.
Savannah Sounds Port Douglas, part of Port Douglas Carnivale, is presented by Douglas Shire Council and major sponsor Newsport.
Carnivale last year generated more than $5.7m across Queensland, with more than $5m spent in the Douglas Shire.
Savannah Sounds will join other Carnivale events including The Longest Lunch at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, the Street Parade and the Maho Magic Bar.
