Date in sight for finish of Alexandra Range landslide fix
Road Repairs
Repairs to Cape Tribulation Road in the Alexandra Range region will be finished by May if all goes to plan.
All up, 26 different sections of the Douglas Shire Council road were damaged more than a year ago by Cyclone Jasper and the subsequent rain which wreaked havoc on our region, but 21 of those spots have now been repaired.
A council spokesperson said this week the aim was to complete repairs to sites 3b, 5, 6, 7 and 8 (see attached map below for details) by May.
Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the progress made so far was a “tremendous achievement”.
“It's even more impressive considering it's being done alongside other roadworks, as well as navigating difficult terrain and managing weather-related delays, our teams have shown remarkable resilience and dedication,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
“The completion of these works ensures safer and more reliable access for residents and visitors alike, supports local businesses, and enhances emergency response capabilities.”
The works are being funded through a grant from the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
Alexandra Range is currently open from 5am to midnight each day.
If you are towing a trailer, caravan or campervan, the total length cannot exceed 15.1m, while any vehicle not towing anything cannot be longer than 12.5m, while the maximum weight is 25 tonnes.
The DSC has also begun the tender for the repair of other landslip sites south of the Daintree River, as well as other sites sitting along Cape Tribulation Bloomfield Road.
