Marlin Challenge proves quite the catch
Fishing Tournament
The results are in, and winners have been declared for the 2024 Port Douglas Marlin Challenge. Four days of fishing made way for the 15th anniversary of one of only two Australian fishing tournaments dedicated to heavy tackle game fishing for Black and Blue Big Marlin.
Hosted by the ‘Port Douglas Marlin Challenge club, the ‘Formula One Grand Prix of fishing’ was a great success despite tougher fishing and challenging weather conditions that increased difficulty for the smaller vessels.
An awards presentation ceremony was held at Salsa Bar and Grill, with two deserving winners being announced.
The perpetual Leon Thomas Trophy for Champion Angler was awarded to Karsten Schramm from the Wild Turkey vessel; Whilst the Brett Thomas trophy for Champion Skipper/Boat went to Chris Miles (Skipper) & Joel Pallister (Owner) from the Miss Nic vessel.
Next year's tournament brings even more excitement with a commitment of $33,000 as prize money for next year's winners as well as many other incredible prizes.
Club President Lynton Heffer spoke on the prominence of the event.
“We fish the biggest and most productive Marlin grounds in the world, and this event brings 10s of thousands of dollars into the local economy,” he said.
