Here's a taste of the more than 50 comments and a couple hundred social media reactions we've had on our stories over the past week.

Questions raised around Reef report

READ THE STORY

Greg Cubit - Newsport Facebook

The report reads more like a political statement. People are waking up to the climate change hoax. Corals on the northern reef are thriving in temperatures at least 10 degrees warmer than the southern reef due to proximity to the equator. Stating water temperature is killing coral is BS. If I want accurate information on what is going on on the Reef, I’ll read reports from Peter Ridd.

Jake Wyat - Newsport Facebook

How does this work when last year was the most new coverage we have seen for ages?

Lawrence Mason - Newsport Facebook

In 1899 super cyclone Mahina devasted the area from Princess Charlotte Bay to Cooktown.

Peter Wallace - Newsport Facebook

Fear mongering again, cover always goes up/down with changing weather conditions, thankfully only a drop this year from the highest cover we have had since recording started, a slow moving cyclone and a rainfall event the heaviest in 2000 years will do something. It will recover quickly, further warming and slight sea rise will only strengthen and improve the reef. Bleaching is a natural response, and majority of the corals are not dead.

Christopher Saint - Newsport Facebook

One of the big problems is the loss of coral diversity caused by heating. A limited number of corals take over. The world would be a sad place if the only species of bird was a starling. “A little learning is a dangerous thing” Alexander Pope

So many ambiguous statements in that misleading report! Question the wording people!! eg ... Lizard Island ... "has now lost "up to" 97% of it's corals in "some areas". They state: "which had been devastated by bleaching in 2016" yet are remiss to mention the devastation in the previous two years 2014/15 caused by TC Ita and TC Nathan that reduced many of the reefs around Lizard Island to rubble!! They state: "and was showing early signs of recovery" .... it was, in 2018/19 and between 2020 and early 2024 the coral cover and growth was excellent. The recovery at Lizard Island has been well-documented and makes a mockery of the 'picture that has been painted' in this report which is nothing more than exaggerated obfuscation.

All so called scientists are ALL paid by government funding. Of course for scientists to get paid their research was, is, and always will be … they need endless money to fix the reef. GBRMPA have received $500,000,000 just last year and do so every year. Get the picture here of now what is really happening. Climate Change is this century’s biggest hoax. Those that push the agenda have money invested in renewables and only are self interested.

Pathways need attention

READ THE LETTER

Randall James Lieshke - Newsport Facebook

The pathway around Warri Pond is also in urgent need of attention. Once the wet season starts, water sits on top of the path turning the concrete into an extremely slippery, algae covered skating rink. Someone will get seriously hurt slipping over on here too. A few simple spoon drains to send the water into the pond is all that is needed. I have sent many Emails to the council and just get their automated reply.

Have a read of the David Marr book called Killing for Country and learn about Australian history.

Russell O’doherty - Newsport Facebook

If the people of Australia don't know the truth of Australia's history by now there is something seriously wrong. Is a Treaty and Truth telling going to make a scrap of difference, how is it going to help aboriginal people move forward? What happened in the past cannot be undone it was a long time ago so it is time to look towards the future not the past. I applaud the LNP for rejecting this devisive policy, we all need to move forward not live in the past.
