Concerns for Four Mile fig trees as palms get the chop
Port Douglas Tree Removal
Port Douglas residents concerned about a spate of tree felling which has cleared significant trees across the township to make way for development or deemed to be unhealthy and unable to save now have concerns for mature fig trees in Four Mile Park as the chainsaws and wood chippers set to work there on Thursday morning.
Letter to the Editor writer Helen Walker earlier this week sparked widespread communty feedback when she expressed anger at the felling of trees in Mitre Street.

Now she is seeking answers over the Four Mile tree removal plan, and whether or not the magnificent fig trees are listed for removal or trimming.
Newsport has also made contact with the Douglas Shire Council for information.
Emotions are high as trees have come down with comments responding to Ms Walker's letter on the Newsport Facebook page critical.
"Just go check the beach on the south side..I rekon they were buchers not gardeners who did that,'' read one response.
"It’s a disgrace. They’ve been grinding up those trees for weeks!" said another.
One labelled the tree felling in Port Douglas "Environmental Vandalism" and another said it was "ignorance" and the natural environment was what gave Port Douglas its charm and attracted tourism.
Newsport will provide details of Douglas Shire Council's response to questions here when received.
