New fun run for Mossman

Douglas Shire residents will have the opportunity to pound the pavement and enjoy a free healthy breakfast at a family fun run and walk at Mossman Gorge next month.
Yalanji R.A.W. (Reconciliation Run And Walk) will see participants make their way along the shared pathway from the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre on November 16.
Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the aim of the fun run was to promote a healthy lifestyle and officially recognise the pathway’s opening.
“We hope this event will be a vibrant celebration of unity, health and cultural diversity which brings people together in a fun and friendly atmosphere,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
“Together we will run, walk and jog our way to fostering a sense of belonging, and support within our community, encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
“The pathway itself has already proven popular with cyclists, joggers, walkers and those using mobility scooters but for many residents the event could be their first time on this scenic route!”
The event will officially start at 7.30am with fun run participants to depart Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre at 8.30am.
There will be three distances available to participants: Junior 1km sprint or stroll; 2km and 4km.
A healthy community breakfast put on by the Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre, will be available for anyone in attendance.
Pre-registration is encouraged.
*The building of the pathway has been made possible by the funding from Department of Transport and Main Roads as a key priority of the Far North Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plan 2016.
