Emergency beach nourishment works are bringing Newell Beach back to life, protecting property and ensuring public safety.

Douglas Shire Council has been busy this week coordinating a sand replenishment program on the beach, with traffic control at the corner of Newell Beach Road and Cyril Close to protect motorists and pedestrians during the works.

Cyril Close Beach Access has also been closed and the public called to avoid the beach south of the Cyril Close Beach Access.

An estimated 2000m3 of sand was planned to be moved by a fleet of trucks from a stockpile at the Daintree Ferry, to Newell Beach over a period of four days. Heavy machinery operated on the beach to move the sand.

Material has been placed on the beach at the front of properties located at 5-11 Cyril Close and, 10 and 11 Olive Street, as well as in front of the beach access point.
