Douglas region police, firefighters, ambulance crews, their families and community leaders have paid tribute to officers who died serving their community with honour at a National Police Remembrance Day service at St Mary’s By The Sea Chapel, Port Douglas.

Held on Friday morning, September 27, the small chapel filled with men and women in uniform in what was an emotional service.

This year, five names have been added to the National Police Memorial in Canberra from across all Australian policing jurisdictions. 

They are Brevet Sergeant Jason Christopher Doig of the South Australian Police; Sergeant Peter Thomas Stone of NSW Police; Senior Constable Glenn Murray of Western Australia Police Force who died in 2022; and Northern Territory Police Force Mounted Constables Thomas Edward McNulty and Arthur Robinson Clapp from 1927.

The gathering paid respect also to colleague Elizabeth “Biff” Castro who passed away on July 8, Snr Cnst Ian Olsen making the emotional acknowledgement to trigger a time of silence to remember and honour Biff.

Retired police officers and their families also were acknowledged.
