Victory for Douglas Shire clubs in action-packed weekend of sports

Over the weekend, Douglas Shire saw plenty of sports action as local clubs competed in various competitions. From basketball to rugby league, athletes put in strong performances and aimed for victory.
The Douglas Heat Basketball Club made the road trip up to Atherton to play in the annual top of the north competition, the Mossman junior sharks played their final games of the year at the Mossman showgrounds and the Port Douglas crocs U13s played the Manunda hawks in the preliminary final. This week also saw the Douglas Dragons A and B grade sides continue their push towards finals.

- U17s Mossman 28- Kangaroos 26
That wraps up the Junior Sharks season, unfortunately no junior teams have made the finals this year but it's been a great year for the juniors rapidly improving each week and having fun all year.
Port Douglas crocs
- Crocs 6.4 40- Hawks 4.7 31
The U13s Port Douglas crocs win a thrilling come from behind win over the Manunda hawks to book themselves a spot in the AFL cairns junior grand final against the south cairns cutters next Sunday. After trailing at the end of the third quarter 22-15 a strong last quarter performance gets them over the line.
Douglas Heat Basketball
The Douglas Heat Basketball Club had a successful day in Atherton with the u10s boys, u12s girls, and u14s boys winning both their games, the undermanned u16s and u18s boys showed great resilience winning 1 out of their 2 games each while the u12s boys fell just short in both their games. The club now looks forward to their next carnival vs their name rivals’ Northern Beaches heat at Newman college Smithfield.
Douglas Dragons
The Douglas Dragons division 1 men's team made the road trip up to Mareeba and took care of business, winning the game comfortably 7-4.
The dragons currently sit third on the ladder only two weeks out from finals. For the B grade team they were able to have a much needed break having the bye last round, sitting fift on the ladder currently the boys are looking to finish the final two rounds strong to book themselves a ticket to the finals.
